Kanye West Went on 'Tucker Carlson' to Talk About Everything From "White Lives Matter" to Lizzo
On Thursday night, Kanye West spoke to Fox Newshost Tucker Carlson about his 'White Lives Matter' t-shirt and erupted on Instagram.
All eyes on Kanye West. The Donda 2 rapper went to Fox Newson Thursday night (October 6) for an interview with far-right correspondent Tucker Carlson about his controversial 'White Lives Matter' t-shirt, racial discrimination and more. Wearing a beard and a cap emblazoned with "2023," Ye went all in.
When asked by Carlson why he was wearing a lanyard with an image of an ultrasound on it, Ye responded, "It represents life. I'm pro-life."
He continued, "I don't care about people's responses. I care about the fact that there's more Black babies being aborted than born in New York City at this point. That 50 percent of Black death in America is abortion."
When speaking about the 'White Lives Matter' t-shirt, the rapper-producer defended his stance, claiming that its message came from “a gut instinct, a connection to God and just brilliance."
Ye also recounted his father's humored reaction to the 'White Lives Matter' statement.
"You know, my dad is an educated ex-Black Panther, and he put in a text to me today, he said, 'White Lives Matter. Ha ha ha ha ha,' " he said. "And I said, 'I thought the shirt was a funny shirt. I thought the idea of me wearing it was funny. And I said, 'Dad, why do you think it was funny?' He said, 'Just a Black man stating the obvious.'"
Ye wore the t-shirt on Monday (October 3) during his YZY event during Paris Fashion Week. Ye's message was slammed in public commentary, including rapper-actor Jaden who left the YZY show and Wanda Cooper-James, the mother of Ahmaud Arbery.
“As a result of his display ‘White Lives Matter’ started trending in the U.S., which would directly support and legitimize extremist behavior, [much] like the behavior that took the life of her son,” Cooper-James said through via attorney Lee Merritt.
On Fox News, Ye compared the outrage of the t-shirt to his support of Trump during the 2016 election, where he wore a "Make America Great Again" red cap.
“My so-called friends-slash-handlers around me told me if I said that I liked Trump that my career would be over, that my life would be over,” he said. “They said stuff like, ‘People get killed for wearing a hat like that.’ They threatened my life. They basically said that I would be killed for wearing the hat.”
The rapper then got into a tangent about Special artist Lizzo, comparing her to Vogue contributor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and calling out media's focus on Lizzo's "unhealthy" weight. When asked by Carlson about why would "they" want to promote unhealthiness, West replied, "It's a genocide of the Black race. They want to kill us in any way they can."
The interview was unnerving to Ye's critics as he continued to sound off on Instagram, unloading on Drake, Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber, former White House senior advisor Jared Kushner and others.
