This song follows Kehlani and YG's collaboration on "Konclusions" which arrived last week.
Kehlani dropped "Valentine's Day (Shameful)" early Monday morning addressing her relationship with her recent ex YG.
The release of this song follows the recent collaboration “Konclusions” featuring both YG and Kehlani which arrived on Valentine’s Day. The latest track digs deep into the inner workings of the rapper and singer’s tumultuous relationship publicly, it’s an emotional listen.
Though she doesn’t name YG, the song details his cheating and also the fact that she stood by him and helped him as he battled with addiction issues. At the beginning of the track she shared, “I am making amends with myself/Forgiving me for loving you/I took a risk loving loudly, defending you proudly/Ignoring all the signs.” She went on to share, “Wish I didn't check your text when you was drunk asleep/ I've seen everything that I ain't wanna see/ That I needed to see, that I needed to be.”
Kehlani also took to Twitter recently in a since-deleted tweet to touch on the situation. “Feel something and get it off. 3 therapeutic hours. appreciating those who see and hear me, and those around me holding me up. real grateful for expression right now. inward & onward, love always ALL ways.”
It’s fitting that she titled the track “Valentine's Day (Shameful).” The two had just celebrated the aforementioned holiday. On her Instagram, Kehlani had even shared photos of how they spend time together, it’s clear from the track that they are no longer together.
