Kendrick Lamar Debuts "Untitled" New Song On The Colbert Report w/ Bilal & Thundercat
For those unaware, The Colbert Report is counting down to its very last show this Thursday and as a proper send-off it's been getting a slew of A-list music men and women to help it go out in a blaze of late-night glory. The past few weeks have found the likes of Paul McCartney, R.E.M. and Nasall adding to the festivities, but it was one Kendrick Lamar that was chosen to close-out the legendary news satirist's epic run before he made the jump to take over David Letterman's seat on The Late Show.
K Dot spoke to his purpose as an MC and preferring to be called a writer as opposed to a rapper, which ended with Compton's king of kinetic mic-slaying showing-off a new tune to reciprocate the love Colbert was dishing. He took to the live stage with a righteous cast of characters in Thundercatholding down the low end, Terrace Martinjumping between keys (?) and sax, withBilal and Anna Wisehandling back-up vocals for the evening. And what a sonic spectacle it was, folks. The currently "Untitled" number finds Lamar telling a tale about a lady before transcending into a beastly refrain, all while Cat thumps intricately and the Bilal/Wise vocal team send punctuating shrieks into the air, making for another haunting, more creeping specimen (at first) than "i." Leave it up to Kendrick & Co to provide the Black Messiah chaser. No word on whether that album's on the way, but if this new joint is any indication of what to expect, the music world may have more than one redeemer on its hands.
