Kendrick Lamar Goes to Therapy in 'Count Me Out' Video
Co-starring actress Helen Mirren, Kendrick Lamar has released a music video for new Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers single "Count Me Out."
Kendrick Lamar heads to therapy in his latest music video for "Count Me Out." Co-starring Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren as Lamar's therapist, the rapper recounts an incident where he was confronted for taking a woman's parking spot before reciting "Count Me Out" over a surrealist montage. At the end of the video, Lamar sits at a piano with an angel by his side.
The "Count Me Out" music video comes before final stop on Lamar's The Big Steppers tour with fellow pgLang artists Baby Keem and Tanna Leone. On Thursday night (December 15), pgLang co-founder Dave Free teased the video's release. "Count Me Out" also marks the fourth music video from Lamar's fifth album Mr.Morale & the Big Steppers, following "N95," "Rich Spirit" and "We Cry Together," which is up for Oscar consideration in the Best Short Film category.
Last month, Lamar and Free discussed the making of "We Cry Together" during a viewing event moderated by actress Tessa Thompson.
“Ultimately, the main thing is, [we wanted to show] people that we can actually identify with, not only from our culture but from cultures all around the world,” Lamar said during the discussion. “I think we all have individuals out there that feel like they can’t find an agreement — whether it’s their surroundings, or whether it’s their psyche that puts them in that environment. So the environment played a huge role, that’s something we definitely wanted to bring to life along with the script. It was just as important as the individuals that were actually spewing out the insults.”
