Kendrick Lamar Ties Drake, Filling All Top Five Spots on Billboard Hot 100
Aside from the two rappers, Taylor Swift and The Beatles are the only other artists who have achieved this accomplishment.
Kendrick Lamarhas bested Drake again — or, at least tied him.
After initially being the only rapper to ever take over the top five spots of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in a single week, Drizzy now shares that feat with Kendrick.
According to Billboard, songs from the West Coast rapper’s surprise album, GNX, have topped the chart: “Squabble Up,” “TV Off,” “Luther,” “Wacced Out Murals” and “Hey Now” have taken No. 1-5, respectively.Lamar also has two other songs in the top 10 of the chart: “Reincarnated” and “Man at the Garden” at No. 8 and 9, respectively.
Aside from Lamar and Drake, only Taylor Swift and The Beatles are the only other artists to have achieved the accomplishment of claiming the Hot 100’s top five in a single week.
Lamar’s chart-topping achievement comes after Lefty Gunplay, who features on “TV Off,” claimed that the pgLang co-founder plans to release a deluxe version of GNX.
While sharing that he contributed more to “TV Off” than what made the final cut, Lefty said, “Yeah, I rapped on that beat. Got some stuff… I know he’s got a deluxe version coming out.”
Aside from the success of GNX, Lamar has next year’s Grammys to look forward to, as his diss track against Drake, “Not Like Us,” has been nominated for multiple awards, including Song of the Year.
