Kendrick Lamar Delivers A Powerful & Cinematic Clip For "i" feat. George Clinton, Ron Isley + More
Kendrick Lamar's been churning the proverbial pot in the hip-hop game for month's now with his soul-strutting Isley's-blessed smash "i," but I suppose it's time that we got the official clip for the polarizing sonic scape. And man is this thing sweet. It starts off in a club with some airy and funked-out backing (is that you again Thundercat?) before a fight erupts and the whole scene blows up, perfectly ushering in the warmth of that all-too-familiar guitar riff. All of a sudden, K Dot busts into a little shoulder shuffle as he two-steps to the door (being carefully looked after by none other than Dr. Funkenstein himself George Clinton) and onto the street for a full-sprint tour of Compton, eventually catching a lift from Ron Isley in his low-riding chariot of war. Finally, we get an MC who's idea of dancing isn't a spin on the Crip Walk. I've got to say, that it's clips and songs like this that define and inspire generations of artists, and it's about damn time someone in our era stepped up to the plate and strapped the culture to its back. Bravo Mr. Lamar, bravo. Watch the dazzling and empowering visual for "i" below and cop the single on iTunes if you've yet to do so.
