Kendrick Lamar Talks About How Missy Elliott & Busta Rhymes Inspired His Music Videos
Kendrick shows love to Missy and Busta
Kendrick Lamar has been making the most interesting music videos in pop culture for years now. This is partially due to his partnership with veteran music video director Dave Meyers, who has been handling the bulk of K.Dot's videos (alongside the Little Homies.)
During a recent conversation with Billboard, Kendrick talked a little about his music videos and his relationship with Meyers.

Speaking about his music videos, and what inspired him, Kendrick said it was growing up and watching videos from the likes of Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes. Kendrick said he used to watch their videos with his longtime friend and partner Dave Free:
You know, just being a kid watching BET, I'd be on the phone with Dave — you know my partner that does the videos with me — and we'd be watching Missy Elliott videos back in high school, and Busta Rhymes videos. They were always big inspirations. So by the time we got to the point where we can mass produce visuals on that level, we said to each other 'We all in,' and that we've been waiting for this moment. So, I think it's something that always inspired us to do it, just being a student and always appreciating somebody being willing to put full impact and full ideas not only into the songs, but when you're watching the songs.

Kendrick also went on to shout out Dave Meyers. Interestingly enough, Meyers did a bunch of Missy Elliott videos back in the day:
Definitely, shout out to Dave Meyers, too. I mean, even the videos that I'm talking about we were watching back in the day, they were all his videos. Talking about Missy Elliot and things like that. Dave Meyers is that guy. He did "LOYALTY." and the "HUMBLE." video.
