Kendrick Lamar Shares Artwork For New Album 'Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers'
The Kendrick Lamar album cover arrives days after he released a new music video for his latest single.
Kendrick Lamar finally shares the cover art for his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
The cover art is shot by Renell Medrano who is known for her editorial work, in the past, she's shot acts including Serena and Venus Williams, Issa Rae, Mary J. Blige, and others. The shot is striking it could also be a public debut of Lamar's children who up until now have been entirely out of the public eye.
Additionally, the image lensed by Medrano features Kendrick wearing a crown, and a woman is also in the right frame of the image holding a baby. We speculate that this could be Whitney Alford, in 2015 he confirmed she was his girlfriend.
The cover comes immediately after he dropped the video for “The Heart Part 5” on Sunday which features deepfakes of pop culture figures. Kanye West, Kobe Bryant, O.J. Simpson, JAY-Z, Will Smith, Jussie Smollett, and the late Nipsey Hussle were subjects in the pgLang-directed visual. Former TDE president Dave Free also directed.
It appears Lamar is pulling out all the stops for his album rollout, so there’s no telling what will come next. In the past, with his former two releases, he also began extremely close to album drop dates. Our assumption is that he's going down this same path but with a tighter turnaround. One thing to note: he hinted at a double album recently. Since the track "The Heart Part 5" took an attack at "the culture," we venture to say the album might center around that topic?
