Watch Kendrick Lamar Morph Into Kanye West, Will Smith, & More in "The Heart Part 5"
Kendrick Lamar has released the video for "The Heart Part 5," his first new solo single in four years.
It's here.
Kendrick Lamar has returned with his first new single in five years, "The Heart Part 5," the latest in Kendrick's iconic "The Heart" series. The song, which samples Marvin Gaye's “I Want You," features one of the most innovative videos of the rapper's career.
The video, which was directed by Dave Free and Lamar, features the rapper morphing into a number of historical figures. Using deepfake technology, Lamar morphs into OJ Simpson, Will Smith, Jussie Smollett, Kanye West, Kobe Bryant, and Nipsey Hussle. Interesting enough, in the credits, there is a special shout out to South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker and their company Deep Voodoo. (It should be noted that Lamar is producing a live action comedy alongside Stone and Parker.)
Kendrick Lamar's new album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers — which is most likely a double album — is dropping this Friday. This will be Kendrick's final album on TDE. Last year, Lamar released a blog post titled “nu thoughts,” where he revealed that his fifth album will be his final release on Top Dawg Entertainment.
“As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators,” he wrote. “As I continue to pursue my life’s calling. There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. I’ve prayed for you all. See you soon enough.”
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is just a couple of days away. Watch the video for "The Heart Part 5" below.
