Kendrick Lamar Shares Official Tracklist For New LP 'To Pimp A Butterfly'
The build continues. Kendrick Lamar has set another piece of his new LP's puzzle into place, unveiling the full tracklist to To Pimp A Butterfly just 11 days before its scheduled release. All told, 16 tracks (including two interludes) will comprise the record, which will most definitely include Lamar's recent singles "i" and "The Blacker The Berry." Other titles, including "King Kunta," "Institutionalized," "Hood Politics" and "Mortal Man" seem to signify that Lamar will indeed be offering up a politically-charged piece of work and homing in on struggles for justice (or, some cases, life itself).
In a preview of Kendrick's upcoming Rolling Stone cover story, the world recently learned that "King Kunta" packs enough funk to warrant 70's blaxploitation status, and is Kendrick "expressing how he's feeling at the moment," producer Mark "Sounwave" Spears said. That feeling, the article notes, is of real anger.
It's also been said that To Pimp A Butterfly is a wildly inventive album, bringing together "funk, spoken-word poetry, and free-jazz, augmented by lots of live playing." From all of these disparate details, we're becoming more and more certain that Lamar is ready to drop a monumental piece of work, and you can bet that we're counting down the days to March 23rd.
