Police Reports Reveal New Details Into Kenneka Jenkins' Mysterious Death
A worker at Rosemont's Crowne Plaza O'Hare Hotel discovered Kenneka Jenkins lying face down on her side inside the industrial walk-in freezer.
New details have emerged surrounding the case of Kenneka Jenkins, the 19-year-old Chicago teen who was found dead in a hotel freezer back in September.
According to a number of police reports, a worker at Rosemont's Crowne Plaza O'Hare Hotel discovered the teen lying face down on her side inside the industrial walk-in freezer. There were no signs of trauma but Jenkins did have a small cut on her foot and was missing a shoe, CBS Chicago reports.
Also included in the police reports are testimonies from some of Jenkins' friends, who said they received death threats after the body was discovered. The documents also stated that the hotel initially checked the exit and entrance surveillance cameras and then went back and looked at footage showing the hallways.
Last week came an autopsy report that revealed Jenkins died of hypothermia from exposure to cold conditions. Along with that came a toxicology report that found alcohol, caffeine and an epilepsy/migraine medication in Jenkins' system. The Cook County medical examiner concluded her death was an accident.
Tereasa Martin, Jenkins' mother, renewed protests against the hotel a couple weeks back. She also called for authorities to "release the tape," referring to hotel surveillance footage that showed Jenkins staggering around the hotel before making her way into the kitchen where the freezer was. The renewed protest follows the public funeral that took place for Jenkins recently, in which over a thousand people attended, and less than a week after Martin called for the protest to stop after she claimed that an activist close to the demonstrations was profiting off her daughter's death.
