Kevin Conroy, the Voice of Batman on the Animated Show, Has Died
Voice actor Kevin Conroy, best known for his work as Batman, died on Thursday after being diagnosed with cancer. He was 66-years-old.
Kevin Conroy, the legendary voice behind Batman since 1992, has died. The 66-year-old was best known for his work on Warner Bros. Animation show Batman: The Animation series, which aired from 1992 to 1996. Conroy went on to become a beloved voice in other Batman productions and video games alike, including Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
The actor was born November 30, 1955 in Westbury, New York, and raised in Westport, Connecticut. He would later study at Juilliard School in New York City alongside legendary thespians Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve. Following his time at the arts institution, Conroy performed theatrically in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Public Theater, Eastern Standard on Broadway and Hamlet at the 1984 New York Shakespeare Festival.
Emmy-winning casting and dialogue director Andrea Romano shared a statement about her friendship with Conroy.
“Kevin was far more than an actor whom I had the pleasure of casting and directing — he was a dear friend for 30-plus years whose kindness and generous spirit knew no boundaries,” Romano said. “Kevin’s warm heart, delightfully deep laugh and pure love of life will be with me forever.”
Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker in multiple projects with Conroy, called the late actor “perfection.”
“He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother,” Hamill said. “He truly cared for the people around him — his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.”
