Kid Cudi Scores First Number One Record Thanks to Travis Scott Collaboration
The two premiered the track in a Fortnite event.
Less than two weeks after its premiere, Kid Cudi's collaboration with Travis Scott has topped the charts. Scott premiered "The Scotts" in a collaborative event with Epic Games' Fortnite. On Monday, Billboard revealed that the record has topped the Hot 100 chart. The track is Cudi's first number-one record in his recording career.
"This means so much to me," an excited Cudi tweeted. "I've been in this game for 12 years and I finally did this [with] my muthafuckin brother! To my partner in rage Travis and all my fans around the world that supported us and got us on lists, I fuckin love you!"
Scott and Cudi have a history that predates Scott's eventual rise to fame. In an October 2018 interview with Jimmy Fallon, Travis--whose birth name is Jacques Berman Webster II--revealed his stage name is partially a nod to Cudi.
"My uncle is named Travis," he explained, "and Kid Cudi is one of my favorite artists of all time, his real name is Scott Mescudi...my two superheroes." For a brief period of time, Travis and Cudi were labelmates on G.O.O.D. Music.
"The Scotts" is Travis' first Billboard number-one single as well. His collaboration with Drake and Tay Keith peaked at the second spot in December 2018. The track is currently available on all major digital streaming platforms.
