"I'm Afraid Of Being Murdered" - Killer Mike On Police Violence
It seems that whenever an act as horrific as those we've seen transpire in the last few days, namely the slayings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, we've been able to rely on Killer Mikefor his impassioned words and guidance. Yesterday was no different. Taking to his hometown's airwaves on Hot 107.9, Mike spoke to the profound fear that these travesties instill in a black man even as famous as he, who celebrates Atlanta's progressive take on policing, yet is scared for his life outside of city borders.
But where many have expressed hopelessness without a clear path to change, Mike has a plan. One that's not terribly new, either: taking the money out of the businesses that do not stand in solidarity with the communities and people affected by these gross misuses of power. Mike speaks from a particularly personal standpoint with a father that served in the Atlanta Police Department, the very same man who begged his children not too follow in his footsteps. However you're feeling, whatever words you're looking for to describe those feelings, this Killer Mike interview could very well put it all in perspective.
And for that, we are eternally grateful.
