The Legendary Kool Herc Speaks On His Jamaican Origins, Fathering Hip-Hop + So Much More On The Combat Jack Show
The legend of Kool Hercis a tale as long as the very culture that he helped found. A recent trip to The Combat Jack Showshined some much earned light on the path of Herc, from his Jamaican roots to his immigration to the states to the many ways he provided the culture with its very first blueprints, recreating the dancehalls of his Kingston community right here in the Bronx. His 1520 Sedgwick Ave. residence became the primordial pool from which all of hip-hop's pillars were forged, right there in the community room with the Herculoid sound system shaking the whole damn building. And while I'd love to dig deep into this nearly 2-hour interview, it's far too much to lay down in a few hundred words. You'll have to just sit back and press play for the most insightful discussion of hip-hop's past the internets have ever seen. Listen to Kool Herc take The Combat Jack Show by storm below.
