Lalah Hathaway Paid Homage to Her Father During Lincoln Center & Okayplayer's 'Soul at the Center' Concert [Recap]

What a night.

On Wednesday, July 24th, Lincoln Center, in association with Okayplayer, kicked off the annual Out of Doors season with a concert honoring legendary TV host Ellis Haizlip. In 1972, Haizlip held Soul at the Center at Lincoln Center; the concert featured Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ike & Tina Turner, and Patti Labelle.

Lincoln Center and Okayplayer did their own Soul at the Center. This version was headlined by Grammy Award–winner Lalah Hathaway, who, for the first time ever, did a full set performing songs from her father, Donny Hathaway. During her hour set, Lalah did renditions of iconic songs like "A Song for You" and "Little Ghetto Boy" (a song she won a grammy for in 2016.) She was also joined, at one point, by her sister, Kenya, and Robert Glasper.

Underneath Hathaway was a jam-packed lineup that included The Illustrious Blacks, R&B singer Baby Rose, and hip-hop forefathers The Last Poets.
