Liam Bailey was selected as one of our
Top 14 Artists To Watch For 2014 (and prominently featured in
our SXSW showcase this spring) for a reason, dammit. We were already open on
the UK singer's reggae & rocksteady-inflected releases from across the pond. But when we heard he was moving to New York, signing with
Salaam Remi's Flying Buddha imprint (see also:
Hiatus Kaiyote) and putting out a straight ahead blues/soul/rock project, it was like, Cut the check! So we barely let Liam step off the plane (he arrived at JFK a week or 2 back) before we got him in front of OKP TV's cameras. Liam brought us 'round his new Brooklyn studio and graciously agreed to perform an acoustic version of "On My Mind," the very first track on his forthcoming Flying Buddha album titled
Definitely Now (arrives on August 19th--
pre-order via iTunes now). Watch below to get a serious dose of what's to come--and find out why industry folks are already talking about this cat like he's poised to be the next Lenny Kravitz. For our money, Liam's voice is too distinctive to poise him for anything other than being the very first Liam Bailey, but we certainly feel Kravitz-level confidence that he's going going to be doing big things this year. But don't just take our pixels for it. New Yorkers can get the firsthand Liam Bailey experience when
he joins Passenger at Central Park SummerStage on August 10th (scroll down for additional live dates in August). Or just pop 'round and visit him in his new BK flat for a little acoustic session of your own:
