Lil Wayne Says He Spoke With Kendrick Lamar About Super Bowl Halftime Show

“I wished him all the best and told him he better kill it,” Lil Wayne said.

Lil Wayne has no qualms with Kendrick Lamarheadlining next year’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans — and has even told the West Coast rapper that he “better kill” his performance.

During an interview with Skip Bayless, Wayne shared that he spoke with Lamar about the halftime show and assured that everything is good between them.

“I’ve spoken to him and I wished him all the best and told him he better kill it. He gotta kill it,” he said.

He also dismissed any possibility of him making a surprise appearance during the show, telling Bayless that he’s “not even gonna be in the country” when the game takes place on February 9.

Previously, Weezy had shared that not being picked to lead the halftime show “broke” him.

“That hurt. It hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a whole lot,” he said in a video shared days after Lamar was announced as the halftime show headliner. “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. And for automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that. But I thought that was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt. It hurt a whole lot.”

Elsewhere in his interview with Bayless, Wayne gave his thoughts on Lamar mentioning him on GNX opener “Wacced Out Murals” after Bayless brought the reference up.

Wayne responded and said that he hadn’t heard the song yet (although he appeared to respond to it late last month) before going on to say, “I think he’s [Lamar] a fan like I’m a fan of his music… he saw what everybody else [saw] and he saw how much it meant to me. I think that’s all he mean… obviously he can’t control that. He didn’t let me down. It ain’t like he can control it.”
