Lil Wayne Voices Support for Trump's Platinum Plan: "He Listened to What We Had to Say"
The NOLA rapper sounds off on the Trump administration's contentious "Platinum Plan."
Lil Wayne is once again under fire after seemingly endorsing the president's "Platinum Plan," and with it, his bid for re-election.
"Just had a great meeting with [Donald Trump,]" the rapper wrote on Twitter Thursday night, captioning a photo of himself smiling beside Trump. "Besides what he's done so far with criminal reform, the Platinum Plan is going to give the community real ownership," he added. Wayne also claimed that the president "listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done."
The comments arrive on the heels of some unsettling statements on both the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement at large. In regards to Floyd's death and the nationwide protests it sparked, Wayne argued "if we want to place the blame on anybody, it should be ourselves," in an Instagram Live interview with Fat Joe. And at the onset of BLM, all the way back in 2016, Wayne claimed he didn't "feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothin’ to do with me," suggesting he found it difficult to identify with, or even acknowledge, the sentiments of the demonstrations.
Sadly, Wayne isn't the first rapper to not-so-low-key voice their support for Trump in the build-up to a monumental Election Day. Earlier this month, 50 Cent cited the GOP's lenient tax policies in supporting Trump's re-election, while Ice Cube revealed he had worked with the administration, submitting a 13-point "Contract With Black America," which was chopped-up and co-opted by The White House before being transformed into what is now the contentious "Platinum Plan."
