Azealia Banks On New Track 'Anna Wintour': 'I Wrote This Song About Finding Myself And Finding God"
Azealia Banks is back with a subtly spiritual ballroom bop.
Azealia Banks has returned with her latest single, "Anna Wintour" off her highly-anticipated forthcoming album, Fantasea II.
The track, produced by Junior Sanchez, showcases Banks in her expected en-vogue environment— dreamy, hip-hop house, with a touch of megaphone mantras, smooth vocals, and beastly bars.
But aside from calmly carrying New York rap in her own right, flirting with high-fashion, and creating the "gay wedding anthem of summer 2018" like she said in a recent Instagram post, the Harlem emcee shared the surprising inspiration behind "Anna Wintour" as a spiritual and personal faith-based feat.
"I wrote this song about finding myself and finding God," she said in an Instagram post about the track last week. "Not at all specific to any religion, this song was written to embody the feeling felt when you connect with the universe." She continues, "We feel afraid to take chances that will bring us out of our comfort zone’s and it’s always in those moments that God finds you and let’s you know that you are exactly in the right place .. at the right time...This song is one of praise, liberation... as well as a kunty stunt.""
Banks even cited Contemporary Christian musician Stacie Orrico as inspiration. "Her ability to craft songs which teeter along the lines of Gospel/Christian Pop/Pop , is something that inspires me so much," she wrote.

As for the track's title, it's directly an ode to Vogue's longtime editor in chief, Anna Wintour. Banks heralds her as a "master of masters," writing, "I relate to Anna Wintour So much as a strong, powerful and larger than life soul in a petite, tidy and feminine body. While others may see Anna as intimidating , I see a woman who was born into this world with an absolute certainty about her place in it."
