Listen To Solange Speak About Activism, Legacy Of Prince + More At Yale University

This past weekendSolangespoke at “Blackstar Rising & the Purple Reign,” a confrence which was held at Yale University in New Haven, CT. An audio version of the conversation, which was titled “Everybody Still Wants To Fly”: Activism In Pop From Prince To Solange,is now available. The singer spoke on a wide range of topics from her album A Seat at the Table, performing, the difficulty of performing "Cranes in the Sky," Prince, activism, and much more. Scroll down to listen. The conference honored the legacies of Prince and David Bowie. “Blackstar Rising & the Purple Reign” brought together an array of musicians, scholars, filmmakers, artists, students, teachers, and more. The conference was described as being a "multi-day symposium [that] will explore the careers of two singular musicians who changed the face of popular music culture in the second half of the 20th century." In other Solange related news, the singer's latest album A Seat at the Table is being developed into a course syllabus. Students and professors at Wake Forest University have joined forces to curate the syllabus and are dividing it into five sections that include: “Resisting Racism,” “Understanding Gender and Sexuality,” “The Role of Relationships,” “Nurturing Ourselves,” and “A Seat at the Lunch Table.” The curators of the syllabus are also accepting submissions from women of color ages 16-30 to help inform what's included.
