Look at This $300 Face Mask will.i.am Wants You to Wear
will.i.am is collaborating with Honeywell for the masks.
Even with the ongoing COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the pandemic is still affecting the market as we know it. On Tuesday, will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas got in on the action, releasing a technically-savvy face mask with a set of built-in features. The XUPERMASK features a silicone face seal, an elastic strap, built-in headphones and LED lighting. You can get your hands on a set for the low price of $300.
"We created XUPERMASK to change the game of our new normal," will.i.am. said in a press release. "What I saw out there in the world was people had loose-fitted masks, and they had earbuds. When they got phone calls, they took the mask off and the earbuds fell on the floor, then the mask fell on the floor, and then the whole point was pointless because everything got dirty."
The masks come in two sizes, small/medium and medium/large. They were designed by Jose Fernandez, the Hollywood costume designer who created Elon Musk's SpaceX suits and worked on films like Black Panther, The Avengers, and X-Men 2.
Will.i.am's inspiration for the masks came from the time he spent in Britain during the first period of lockdown. "I was worried about not being able to come in to America," he said. "And even if I was able to get in, about being on an airplane."
"We are living in sci-fi times," will.i.am told the New York Times. "[The pandemic] is straight out of a friggin' movie. But we are wearing masks from yesterday's movie. So I wanted to make a mask to fit the era that we're in."
Shipping in the United States begins on April 8th. Get a chance to order a XUPERMASK at the official site.
