Looks Like Lil Nas X Will Be Bringing "Montero" to 'SNL'
Lil Nas X will be Saturday Night Live's musical guest on May 22nd.
On Monday, NBC announced the upcoming guests for the May 15th and May 22nd episodes of Saturday Night Live. On the 15th, actor/writer Keegan-Michael Key will host in preparation for the release of Schmigadoon!, the Apple TV+ film premiering on July 16. The following week, however, rapper Lil Nas X will make his SNL debut as musical guest. According to his Instagram page, he'll perform "Montero" and a new single.
The news comes on the heels of Lil Nas X's controversial single "Montero" remaining atop the global Spotify charts for another week, this week earning over 7 million streams. The song has spent 26 days in total atop Spotify's charts. The track has also risen to the top spot on Billboard's new Global Exclusive U.S. singles chart, reaching the summit in America and abroad. Thanks to streams and official video views, "Montero" has spent all four weeks on the charts since its release.
"He knew the conversations he started," "Montero" producer David Biral of Take a Daytrip told Vulture. "He knew it would piss off a lot of people, those that aren’t quick to realize the true message behind that music video and what it’s actually saying, and how that relates to so many people who are afraid to be truly themselves. Because there’s so many things in the world that tell someone who is gay or someone who is a person of color that you can’t be something or go someplace because of who you are."
Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk will host May 8th's episode of Saturday Night Live with musical guest Miley Cyrus. Every season of the show is now streaming on NBC's Peacock streaming service.
Stay tuned for further updates on Lil Nas X.
