Rev. Michael Pfleger, senior pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church, has invited Farrakhan to respond to his removal from the social media platforms, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"I get very concerned when we start to live in a country where free speech is taken away," Pfleger said. The priest also said Farrakhan confirmed his attendance and will speak at the church 7 p.m. Thursday. Pfleger added that he'll be asking people in attendance to share Farrakhan's speech on Facebook.
Farrakhan was banned last week alongside Alex Jones and Milo Yiannopoulos from Facebook and Instagram, which the former social media platform also owns.
"We've always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology," a Facebook spokesperson said. "The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today."
Following Farrakhan's banning, Snoop Dogg and Jay Electronicaspoke out in support of him.
"So, Facebook and Instagram banned Minister Louis Farrakhan. I want to know for what," Snoop said in a video uploaded to his Instagram account. "All he ever do is tell the truth. But y’all gon’ ban him, though. Alright, what if we ban y’all? What if we stop fuckin’ with y’all, Facebook and Instagram? The fuck y’all gonna ban Minister Louis Farrakhan? For puttin’ truth out there? I stand with him. I’m with him. Ban me, mothafucka. Ban me, ’cause I’m gonna keep posting his shit."
Pfleger also responded on social media, tweeting: "How dare FB BAN Minister Louis Farrakhan while daily I come across Racist, Violent and Hateful comments and postings...I STAND WITH MY BROTHER....Mr. Zuckerberg your hypocrisy and double standards are disgraceful."
