Louis Vuitton Is Looking For Virgil Abloh's Successor

Telfar Clemens, Martine Rose, and Grace Wales Bonner have been considered to succeed Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton is looking for their next fashion designer to fill the shoes of Virgil Abloh. Among the late designer's potential successors are Telfar Clemens of TELFAR, Martine Rose and Grace Wales Bonner of Wales Bonner. The designer chosen will become Louis Vuitton's new creative director for menswear. The announcement was first reported by The Business of Fashion, and the final decision for which designer will succeed Abloh will arrive “within weeks.”

A decade after Abloh founded luxury fashion label Off-White, in April, Ibrahim Kamara was appointed the role of art and image director. Off-White CEO Andrea Grilli gave a statement on the brand's "next chapter" following Abloh's death from cancer last November. The designer was 41-years-old.

“In the wake of Virgil’s tragic passing we have been working tirelessly to keep his legacy alive and the brand relevant as a point of reference and platform in constant evolution,” Grilli said.

In September, LVMH's Virgil Abloh Award will be introduced by Harlem’s Fashion Row during their 15th Anniversary Fashion Show and Style Awards. Presented by Abloh's wife Shannon Abloh, the inaugural recipient of the Virgil Abloh Award is Issa Rae, and the award will continue to be given to recipients “who embody Virgil’s spirit, brilliance, and vision.”

Designers Clarence Ruth, Johnathan Hayden and Nicole Benefield will also showcase their brands at the Harlem’s Fashion Row event, scheduled to open New York Fashion Week on September 6.
