Lupita Nyong’o & Gabby Douglas Added to Apollo's Women of the World (WOW) Festival Lineup
The Apollo Theater is the place to be the first weekend of May. From May 4-7, the iconic venue will feature a number of artists, leaders, and activists for their annual Women of the World (WOW) Festival.
A majority of the lineup was announced earlier this month. However, two exciting additions have just been revealed: Academy award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o and three-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas.
Nyong'o will perform a dramatic reading of selections from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s bestselling novel Americanah. That book has made waves recently because it won the “One Book, One New York” program, an initiative where New Yorkers choose one book to read as a community.
Douglas, on the other hand, will participate in conversation abut the dangerous effects of cyber bullying, a topic she knows about intimately. Both events will be on the last day of the festival, and both events will be free.
That weekend will be stacked with other events, talks, and panels, featuring women like actress Gabourey Sidibe, activistand organizerTamika Mallory, and writerJulie Scelfo.
