Watch A Leaked Clip Of Marlon Wayans' Audition Tape For A Richard Pryor Biopic
In case you didn't know, there is, in fact, a biopic in the works to capture the life and legacy of the comedic GOAT Richard Pryor, helmed by visionary director Lee Daniels. And while the most coveted role in Hollywood ended up going to the always hilarious Mike Epps (no discontent there) a freshly leaked clip of Marlon Wayans trying his hand at the role has surfaced, showing what Wayans Jr. might have done with the reigns. And (as Questo noted) it goes pretty damn deep.
The clip finds Wayans (Pryor) in what appears to be a therapy session first (opposite Omar Epps,) tortured by reality, crippled by a drug addiction that seemed like his only way out and confronting the senseless beatings he's inflicted on the many woman who have loved him. Then, we get a quick flash of Wayans on stage, channelling his inner-junkie for a classic Pryor bit, where you see all of the pain come to a boil. I've personally only seen one very short clip of Epps' Pryor impression, but aside from the voice (which admittedly needs some work) this is about as harrowing a performance as I've seen as of late, gut-wrenching even. And while this is a taste of a project that never was, it is certainly interesting to see how Wayans would have portrayed the comedic legend. Check out the clip below and let know what you think about the decision to go with Epps in the comment section.
