Marvel Reups The Remix Covers w/ Pete Rock & CL Smooth, The Roots & Nas
July 27, 2015
Just a few weeks back, Marvel made the world of hip-hop tremble with excitement as it unveiled the very beginning of what is slated to be a 50 LP roll-out of iconic album covers fit with their roster of superheroes. The first batch had us reeling with Spiderman donning the Midnight Marauders cover, Ant Man blankly starring into the great divide in the place of Biggie's daughter on the cover of Ready To Die, not to mention treatments of 36 Chambers, Paid In Full, 3 Feet High And Rising and a handful of others all getting fit with the legendary remix covers. And if those didn't get your spidey-sense to tingle, the comic book giant has added a grip of new pieces, featuring the new-school Spiderman, Miles Morales filling in for Nas on the cover of Illmatic, Hawkeye and Black Widow cooling out on Pete Rock & CL Smooth's full-length debut Mecca And The Soul Brother and perhaps the motherlode of variant covers; The Avengers in the place of our very own Roots crew on Illadelph Halflife, confirming that legendary to be the real-life caped crusaders we've long know them to be. Once again, there are 50 variant covers, of which we've maybe seen 10. So hold tight for the rest of Marvel's ode to all of the comic hoarding hip-hop junkies in the weeks and months to come and peep the latest covers in the gallery above. No word on when we'll get physical copies, but I'll be damned if Marvel doesn't already have of our money in principle.
