Mary J. Blige's Divorce Papers Reveal She Made No Money From 'Mudbound' Role
New revelations in the singer's divorce case emerge.
New court documents reveal Mary J. Blige netted no income from her performance in the 2017 Netflix original movie, Mudbound. The documents, filed ahead of the Blige's divorce trial with ex-husband and manager Kendu Isaacs, state the R&B legend's expenses outweighed what she earned from her Oscar-nominated role for Best Supporting Actress and Song in the film.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Blige is arguing against paying Isaacs spousal support and attributing a portion of her financial issues to him.
The files state that though her expenses outweighed her salary for the film, the project "garnered her critical acclaim" and was intended to support her brand and image. They also note Blige's main source of income is from touring stating, as a "legacy artist, there is no market for her to embark on a major world tour every year.”
Blige also says she doesn’t own her old music catalog, and owes $25 million in advances. She argues that paying any support to Isaacs would be unfair due to the $12 million in debt they accrued as a couple that she is still paying off. Blige also charges Isaacs has been unwilling to find employment.
