Mary J. Blige to Debut Talk Show 'The Wine Down' In 2023
R&B icon Mary J. Blige has signed on to host her first talk show, The Wine Down, which will premiere on BET in 2023.
Twenty twenty-three is setting up to be an entrepreneurial year for Mary J. Blige. The R&B icon, who performed during the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show after releasing her 14th studio album Good Morning Gorgeous, has signed on to host her first talk show. Titled The Wine Down, the BET talk show “will bring together the hottest, most outspoken, highly sought-after people in entertainment, sports, social media, and politics” for “raw, provocative, insightful, and real conversations” over wine.
In 2020, the singer launched her wine label, Sun Goddess, with Italian winemaker Marco Fantinel. Through Blige's production company, Blue Butterfly, the artist is also planning a a first-look scripted TV deal with Lionsgate Television, per Deadline. The television deal also comes one month after Blige was nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year.
“BET has been one of my biggest supporters throughout my career,” said Blige in a statement. “Being able to now create together, for them to be so supportive of my vision for the type of content I will create, is something I am grateful and excited for. We already have multiple projects in the works and there is much more to come.”
The first Blue Butterfly feature was Amazon Studios' documentary Mary J. Blige’s My Life. The company also debuted the inaugural Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit, held in Atlanta during May.
