Mary J. Blige to Headline Roots Picnic 2022
Expanding to two days and returning to in-person, Roots Picnic 2022 will feature Mary J. Blige, Summer Walker, Wizkid, Jazmine Sullivan and more.
June marks the return of Roots Picnic. With a packed, two day lineup, the festival will be held at The Mann at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Coming off her post-Super Bowl performance, Mary. J Blige will co-headline Roots Picnic with The Roots, as Wizkid, Summer Walker and Kamasi Washington will also lead the festival.
The music festival first launched in 2007, each year being headlined, hosted, and curated by The Roots. This year, the legendary group has joined forces with co-presenter Live Nation Urban for two days of uplifting Black music, art and culture. On Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5, attendees and expect to also see Musiq Soulchild, serpentwithfeet, Rick Ross, YEBBA, and even a spotlight with Keyshia Cole and the Soulquarians.
The festival will once again offer a Podcast Stage curated by Willie The King and Wallo 267. Questlove Supreme, Rory & Mal, and Jemele Hill is Unbothered are among the live podcasts slated to appear.
YouTube will also serve as an exclusive host for the festival, streaming live through The Roots' official channel.
“After a long two years, we are excited to announce the return of The Roots Picnic to Philly with two days of music and culture at The Mann at Fairmount Park,” said Shawn Gee, The Roots manager, president of Live Nation Urban and Roots Picnic co-founder in a press release. “This year, Black Thought, Questlove and I attempted to curate a lineup that broke through the genre barriers that often separate us in Black culture. To be able to book Mickey Guyton, Kirk Franklin, G Herbo, Wizkid, Wallo & Gillie, and Mary J Blige on the same lineup was a dream come true.”
A special fan club presale for Roots Picnic tickets goes live today at 10 AM ET. General on-sale begins on Friday, February 18th at 10 am ET. Weekend or limited single day tickets and VIP packages will be available.
