Melania Trump Seems To Have Plagiarized A Part of Michelle Obama's '08 Convention Speech
It looks like the Republican National Convention got off to a somewhat inauspicious start last night in Cleveland. There’s plenty to comment on from the evening but the internet seems to be buzzing the most about Melania Trump’s opening address. We haven’t heard much from Mrs. Trump on the campaign trail… and the little we did hear sounded pretty familiar.
Journalist Jarrett Hill was one of the first to point out that nearly a whole paragraph from Mrs. Trump’s speech last night was identical to that of First Lady Michelle Obama’s opening speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. The words speak for themselves.
Making matters worse, prior to the speech, Mrs. Trump spoke with NBC’s Matt Lauer saying she wrote the speech “with as little help as possible.”
When reached for comment by CNN, Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort had this to say: “To think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinized her speech was going to be last night is just really absurd.”
At the end of the day, this is more bizarre than anything else and won’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. Donald Trump has been feeding the American public lies throughout his campaign (this is fact, not opinion) and he’s only become more popular in the process. Stay tuned as there's sure to be more report from the RNC this week.
On the lighter side, as you'd expect, #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes is very much a thing (H/T Buzzfeed).
