Audio Premiere: Merna Drops Highly-Anticipated 'The Calling' LP + Debut Stream
Palestinian vocalist Merna (formerly known as Ayah) follows her single "A Little More" with a full stream of the The Calling LP, executive produced By Ali Shaheed Muhammad. The project - a testament to her artistic evolution - finds her shaking off the weight of her past to deliver a whirlwind collection of tracks that have been described as a "masterpiece." Merna delivers the stream and album today with a note on her approach to the recording process and the significance of the project which borrows from a host of sonic and cultural influences:
“Musically, I always aim to break my own ground and delve a little more into my history and things that I’ve been influenced by. For example, there are sounds and rhythms on this album that are African and Arab inspired. Not a lot of people know that my first ever band in Abu Dhabi was a rock band, and that I’m classically trained in piano.”
Continuing, she notes:
"This album is extremely personal. Truly a reflection of my life. I'm always evolving as a person. Merna is coming full circle. Every part of my universe connected.”
Combining her catharsis with top-notch production, Merna delivers a fearless project that is as edgy and honest as it is gorgeous. The Calling is a brash collection of tracks that play like a call to arms and find Merna reclaiming her place as a force to be reckoned with. Check the tracks below to stream The Calling LP.
