MF DOOM Joint Album With Czarface is Coming This Weekend
MF DOOM previously recorded an album with the trio Czarface in 2018.
The hip-hop community suffered a ground-shaking loss towards the end of 2020, when the family of MF DOOM announced the MC had passed away in October. On Wednesday, one of DOOM's frequent collaborators Czarface (made up of Inspectah Deck and Boston duo 7L & Esoteric) announced that on May 7th, they'll be releasing Super What?, a joint album the collective finished in 2020. Pre-order a vinyl copy of the album here.
"Super What? was recorded and slated to drop in April of 2020," Esoteric explained on Instagram. "When COVID-19 struck and the world stopped, we chose to pull it, focus on family, and fine tune a few elements on it. What you'll be hearing was finalized, mixed & mastered in the summer of 2020, and it's our honor and privilege to share it with you Friday."
The project is 10 tracks long and features guest appearances from DMC, Del the Funky Homosapien, Kendra Morris, and Godforbid. The project is the first official release since DOOM's passing. Czarface and DOOM previously collaborated in 2018 for the album Czarface Meets Metal Face. They initially linked up for the 2015 track "Ka-Bang!" from their Every Hero Needs a Villain project.
"I speak for everyone involved when I say we were incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with DOOM," Esoteric continued. "He was a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-duplicated emcee, producer, and visionary. We wish peace and healing to his family, friends and everyone touched by the gifts he shared with the planet. MF DOOM FOREVER."
Stay tuned for the release of Super What?
