Michael Jackson Was Behind 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' Soundtrack
Sonic game creator Yuji Naka took to Twitter and confirmed that Michael Jackson wrote music for the 1994 Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack.
Michael Jackson was literally at the top of his game in the '90s. In celebration of the 31st anniversary of 1991 game Sonic the Hedgehog, game creator Yuki Naka confirmed that The King of Pop wrote music for the 1994 Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack.
First asking the question “Does Sonic Origins Sonic 3 have a different song?” referencing the newly-remastered compilation for Sonic Origins, Naka answered his own question, saying “Oh my god, the music for Sonic 3 has changed, even though Sega Official uses Michael Jackson’s music.”
Naka went on to share a TikTok from SEGA where a Sonic character mimes Jackson's 1982 Thriller hit "Billie Jean," adding, “SEGA Official uses Michael Jackson’s music. means this.”
Towards the end of the thread, Naka shared a photograph of Jackson's Neverland ranch, shot from the singer's helicopter.
“This is a picture taken by me with my camera when we went to his house in his helicopter. It’s pretty faded. I miss it," the Sonic creator wrote.
Rumors that Jackson contributed to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 date back to the game's 1994 release, when some players said songs from the game's original score sounded like “Smooth Criminal” and “Black or White.”
Jackson had a close relationship with SEGA, creating his own game series Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, beginning in 1988. In 2009, Jackson's composer and musical director Brad Buxer said that the reason the singer was uncredited from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was that “he was not happy with the resulting sound coming out of the console.”
