Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre & Lil Wayne to Be Awarded Global Impact Awards
Given by the Recording Academy, Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne and Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone will receive Global Impact Awards.
The Recording Academy and Black Music Collective are honoring Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne and Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone during the 2023 Global Impact Awards. Awarding each music figure for “personal and professional achievements in the music industry,” the honors will be given out on February 2 at the Hollywood Palladium.
“I am so thrilled to honor and celebrate these four giants in the music industry,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement. “Last year’s inaugural event was such a highlight during GRAMMY Week and now with Dre, Missy, Wayne and Sylvia there to pay tribute to this year, it’s definitely going to be another night to remember. I continue to be proud of the work of our Black Music Collective as it’s a vital part of what we do here at the Academy.”
First-time Grammy Award nominee Adam Blackstone is on board as the ceremony’s musical director and Recording Academy Board of Trustees Vice Chair Rico Love will lead the event. The second annual Black Music Collective event is sponsored by Amazon Music and Google Pixel Phone and will be held three days before the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
Black Music Collective was initiated in September 2020 in response to widespread recognition of its institutional biases. Held in 2022, the inaugural Global Impact Awards honored John Legend, MC Lyte, D-Nice and Atlanta-based record label Love Renaissance.
Hosted by Trevor Noah, the 65th Annual Grammy Awards will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 5. The telecast will air 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT on CBS.
