Missy Elliott to Receive an Honorary Degree From Berklee College Of Music
Justin Timberlake and Alex Lacamoire will also receive honorary doctorates at the Boston school's commencement this May.
Missy Elliott will receive an honorary doctorate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
The rapper, singer-songwriter, producer and pioneer is set to receive an honorary degree alongside Justin Timberlake and music orchestrator and director Alex Lacamoire.
Berklee President Roger H. Brown will present award-winning the five-time Grammy-Award winning artist with an honorary Doctor of Music degrees at Berklee College of Music's commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 11 at Agganis Arena in Boston University.
According to a statement from the school, "this year's honorary doctorate recipients are being recognized for their achievements and influences in music, and for their enduring global impact." Past recipients include Duke Ellington (the first, in 1971), Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones (‘51), B.B. King, Smokey Robinson, Annie Lennox, Carole King, Willie Nelson, George Clinton, Rita Moreno, Lionel Richie, Julio Iglesias, Mavis Staples, George Clinton, Nile Rodgers, and Esperanza Spalding (’05).
Missy posted a response on Twitter writing, "I am soooooo HUMBLED!"

In June 2019, Missy, whose career spans three decades, will become the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
