Mixtape Monday: Purple Prince Mix Retrospective + More
This week's episode of Mixtape Mondaystrikes directly at the heart, as it marks the one year anniversary of Prince Rogers Nelson's untimely passing. If you're like us and are a devout parishioner at the altar of the Purple One — then you know just how hard it might be to hear the supreme creative's name.
A handful of selectors pull double duty as dedicated musicologists, taking listeners on a ride through Prince's expansive catalog of hits, b-sides, rarities, live jams and more. There are re-ups of old mixes, new rendering of mixes and efforts split into volumes. There are projects that dive deep into Prince's sensual side and ones that are heavy on the funk.
Through it all, there are also a few easter eggs tucked into this week's round-up from Soulection, Across The Tracks Radio and Elegant Animals. Are we gonna let de-elevator bring us down? Oh no, let's go!

Soul Clap - Soul Clap’s Prince Tribute (Live at Coachella 2016)
Beantown’s own Soul Clap got word of Prince’s passing last year during Coachella weekend. Rocked by the news, like the rest of the world, they put their love for the man and his music to work with a Weekend 2 performance dedicated entirely to The Purple One.
News of Prince’s passing came smack dab in the middle of our first ever Coachella experience. We were of course shocked and knew immediately that a tribute of some sort was in order… But HOW could we POSSIBLY pick one song or two to represent our gratitude for The Purple One's immeasurable musical contributions? We wondered, what songs would other artists be playing? Should it be a slow intro or a peak moment? After hours of deliberation we realized that we had to dedicate our ENTIRE 2nd weekend performance to one of our greatest musical heroes. Partially planned but mostly improvised, we took the crowd, ourselves and each other on a journey through some of our favorite Prince hits. By the end the Yuma Tent was full of tears and love and dancing bodies, all celebrating the life and music of Prince Rogers Nelson. It was a truly humbling experience, thank you for joining us.

Elegant Animals takes a journey through experimental music and found sound with his Warm Blood Pt. 2 tape.
