The one and only Personify teams with Record Breakin' Music to drop more goodies with the fifth installment of the label's Sound Traveler Series. The mix packs the usual funk and soul that Record Breakin' fans have come to expect. This joint follows Personify's formidable collaboration with DJ Lil' Dave. Personify drops a note about his set alongside the mix:
In the theme of sound traveling, for this installment of the Sound Traveler series I decided to pull some music I’m particularly fond of at the moment from a few different genres, including house, soul, boogie, hip-hop and jazz to name a few… Some songs are old and some are new. Some tracks are from vinyl and others are from digital sources. Some will be familiar and others may not be so familiar. Some may make you want to dance and others may make you want to chill out. For me personally, the common thread running through the songs on this mix is that they all have a lot of soul. I hope you’ll find them soulful as well, and that you’ll enjoy the mix wherever you are, doing whatever it is you’re doing. Dig the tunes and if you like what you hear, please look up the artists and support them however you can. Thanks for listening, and big thanks to Record Breakin’ Music for having me be a part of the Sound Traveler series! It’s an honor to be featured amongst so many talented folks. Peace… @Personify

Philly's own DJ R to Da Izza gives fans a little Outkast 101 with the release of his Straight Out The Dungeon samples mix. The set takes listeners through the minds of the Organized Noize camp as they produced the tracks that would go on to become classics of the 'Kast canon. He drops the mix with a note about his intentions to honor the ATLiens as they continue their recent comeback run:
With Outkast reuniting for a tour this year and it being 20 years since they released their first album I decided to take you on a journey and give you a history lesson of all the songs they've sampled. Outkast doesn't sample as much as many other hip hop acts so this mix isn't very long, however Organized Noize and Outkast consistently finds innovative ways to flip samples. That said, this is truly a treat for anyone who is a fan of Outkast. If you loved my Best of Andre 3000 you should like this. Enjoy Straight

Chief Boima returns with the Six Over Eight Tour Mix. He offers a sufficiently detailed and fitting explanation of the philosophy behind the mix:
Usually people put out a mix before their tour to promote upcoming shows… Well, I’m putting one out after — many excuses as to why — most importantly because I wanted to share a part of my set that got some interesting reactions from crowds this past month touring the U.S.Almost everywhere I played, I dropped an extended set of songs in a 6/8 time signature, which was either met by enthusiastic cheers to a new rhythm in the club, or dancing bewilderment by crowds probably used to moving in 4/4. So in part to highlight some of the exciting developments in dance music led mostly by producers of the Lusophone World, and also to allow people to practice their moves at home, I present to you my new mix-tp3 – Six Over Eight:

Keshav and Sam aka Bristol beatmaking duo Jus Now team with FADER to drop a heavy soca mix full of original joints that packs a taste of all of their influences from the caribbean to the UK. They explain the mix in an exclusive interview with the magazine.
How did you put together this mix and what’s on it? KESHAV: This mixtape is comprised of all original records. There are a wide range of tempos on there, with influences ranging from dancehall to hip-hop, samba, bhangra, drum & bass and soca but all delivered in our Jus Now-ish menacing and percussion heavy style. We worked with some wicked vocalists like the legendary Beenie Man, Trini-American bredrin Trinidad James, young and upcoming Vanna Vee, and our own in-house vocalists Kerwin Prescott and Serocee. There’s a distinctly Indian edge to a few of the tracks as well, as I lived there for some time as a child when my dad was posted there. The mixtape is basically a free album full of mad tunes.SAM: For me, I didn’t think we were quite ready to put out a full artist album, as we are still exploring our sound, but we have lots of original music already completed that we were happy with and we wanted people to be able to hear it sooner rather than later. It definitely shows a broader range of influences than our previous releases.
