Musician Jack Antonoff Calls on RCA To Drop R. Kelly
Jack Antonoff: “I hope my label drops R. Kelly.”
Jack Antonoff has called on RCA records to drop label mate R. Kelly amidst the R&B singer's latest addition of sexual abuse allegations. The musician, who has produced for Lorde, Taylor Swift and his own Fun. and Bleachers, said he raised the issue "many times" with the label.
Billboard shared a since-deleted tweet, screenshotted on Wednesday night, in which Antonoff writes, “I hope my label drops R. Kelly. I’ve discussed it with them a number of times.”
His tweet came on the same day reports surfaced via a new documentary, R. Kelly: Sex, Girls and Videotapes, which aired Wednesday night on BBC Three alleging Kelly used a "sex dungeon" with the intentions of "training" girls as young as 14 to be his "pets."
Antonoff didn’t directly mention RCA Records in the tweet, but both artists are signed to the label. Kelly has been under RCA since Jive— the label to which he was originally signed— shut down in 2011 and combined with RCA as part of Sony-BMG's merger in 2004.
RCA, a subsidiary of Sony Music, has released R. Kelly's music since 2012, as well as Fun. and Bleachers' music.
