Nas & Jack White Cover a Blues Song From the 1920s in this Clip From the 'American Epic' Documentary
On May 16th, PBS will start airing American Epic, a three-part documentary thatwill examine music in America during the early 1900s. The documentary series was produced by Jack White, Robert Redford, and T Bone Burnett.
The producers have released a clip from the movie, and it's a great one. It features the legendary rapper Nas talking about blues from the 1920s. Well, he was talking about one song in particular: "On The Road Again," by the Memphis Jug Band.
In the video the rapper spoke on the song, and blues in general, saying:
“It’s the same as rap music today. They were rapping about street life and gangster life and hustling, just a dark side of the world.”
What's really cool is Nas and Jack White join together for a quick session where they cover the song. It's pretty great footage. Fun to watch if you're a fan of Nas or Jack White or just music history in general.
