NaS x Tony Touch Live At The Fever Ca. 1993
Speaking of making NaS proud--it must be Throwback Mondays or supm because Tony Touch just let off this vintage footage today, an 11-minute video highlight reel of 1993 Nas and Toca wrecking shop in the Bronx 10 years ago or so. AZ makes a cameoand Hot97's banner is hanging behind the stage--just to remind you how ,ind-blowingly revolutionary it was to have an all-hip-hop commercial radio station--while Shyheim The Rugged Child looks on. All in all, a video to put in the archive right between Biggie freestyling at a Clinton Hill block party and that Super Cat and Ninja Man soundclash. Nasty Nas looks to be about 18 in this clip but stuff like this makes me think that maybe 1993-Nas is something like the Lord Baby Jesus that Ricky Bobby prays to in Talladega Nights; an ageless archetype of divinely-inspired, pre-Kelis MC prowess who exists in a dimension outside of time, regardless of the physical aging, falling-offs and coming-backs of mere mortal Nasir Jones. Listen, it's just a nice thought. When you say grace, you can say it how you like. By the way, Tony Touch is dropping this Piecemaker 3: Return Of The 50 MCs project on July 9th--that's what all the webisode hype is about. Watch out for it.
