Watch the Insane Trailer for Nate Parker's New Film 'American Skin'
Parker stars in the film which is his newest project following Birth Of A Nation.
The first trailer for Nate Parker’s sophomore feature film American Skin has officially dropped. Deadline reports Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the drama.
The film originally debuted at Venice Film Festival in 2019 and was executive produced by Spike Lee. American Skin is the latest from Parker following rape allegations from his college years which resurfaced during the release of his debut film Birth Of A Nation.
In the film, Parker plays Lincoln Jefferson, an American veteran who is a janitor at a prestigious junior high school in California. The entire project centers around Lincoln witnessing the killing of his son during a routine police check at the hands of a white officer. The cop goes uncharged for the death and doesn’t have to face a trial. Since Lincoln finds this to not be true justice, in the trailer he’s seen seeking justice for his son.
Ben Ammar, American Skin’s producer shared a few thoughts on the film with Deadline:
“When I was brought Nate’s script, I knew I had to be involved as this story would spark a discussion about the state of racism not only in the US, but the whole world. Just a few months after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, the BLM movement occurred. As a society, we need to acknowledge the truth about systemic racism and tackle the fear that drives it.”
On the emergence of calls for justice, Parker shared, “In 2014, following the death of Michael Brown, I traveled to Ferguson, Missouri to stand against the overt domestic terrorism I saw spreading like a virus throughout our country.”
He added, “As an American citizen, father, brother, son and artist, I felt compelled to use my platform as a filmmaker to respond to this crisis in a way that could not only promote social equity, but initiate a global culture shift that can result in the preservation of lives.”
