The news was first reported by Deadline and then confirmed by Carmichael himself, who put out a statement:
For three seasons (okay 2.5), I got to make a show that I love with my friends...Its something Ive wanted to do since I was 13. Now, Im excited to go make other things that I love. Thank you to every person who worked on or watched The Carmichael Show.
It's no secret that Carmichael and NBC didn't also have the coziest relationship. According to Deadline, renewal negotiations were not going well, which also happened last year.

Then there was the incident two weeks ago, when NBC pulled an episode of the The Carmichael Show centered around a mass shooting, in the wake of congressman Steve Scalise getting shot. After they made that decision, Carmichael publicly said:
Really to me, what it says is that you dont think that America is smart enough to handle real dialogue and something that reflects real family conversations and something that feels honest and true and still respects the victims.
The Carmichael Show is currently in the middle of its third season.
