New Kanye West Track "God Level" Surfaces, Then Disappears [Audio Clip]
Kanye West seems to be having a busy weekend. Along with partying in Versailles and marrying Kim, Ye dropped a brooding new track produced by Hudson Mohawke on behalf of Adidas Soccer. At least that's what we thought. An early morning Soundcloud post on the Adidas Football page is now busted and all we're left with is a short Youtube clip (below) from the company's FIFA World Cup campaign that contains roughly 50 seconds of the track. What's there is a sound that's straight Yeezus: raw synths and a tribal-inspired drum pulse boil as Kanye boasts "You see sharks in the water / You don't see murder like this this often / Provide a new coffin / You don't see murder like this this often" before leaning back on the repeated line "God level". He already told us he's a supernatural being, and now a year later it looks like he's maintaining.
We were able to listen to the entire track before it was taken down and can attest that it hammers all the way through. Mohawke's brand of weird mixes perfectly with the current Kanye brand of jagged acid-rap. Either the cut is a Yeezus outtake or a sign that the GOOD Music don is sticking to the format that made his last LP a controversial hip-hop masterpiece. The tense backing track grounding every second of "God Level" is all you hear for most of its 3ish minutes. Ye lays out for at least half its running time, but we promise you: the lines you don't hear in the Adidas spot are raw. Real raw. Think "I'm In It" and you won't be far off.
Following his dive into marital bliss Kanye will be bringing his galactic-sized Yeezus live show to a number of festivals this summer including Bonnaroo and the Philadelphia half of the Made in America Festival. It's a fair bet that we'll be seeing him on his God Level this summer. We're already hearing it on every damn pre-roll ad. No complaints.
