Nicki Minaj Joins Maluma For Official FIFA World Cup Song "Tukoh Taka"
Nicki Minaj is now an official artist for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, appearing on new anthem "Tukoh Taka" with Maluma and Myriam Fares.
Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares take FIFA World Cup party to the desert in "Tukoh Taka." On Friday (November 18), the official FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 anthem released, the first FIFA World Cup song to feature English, Spanish and Arabic lyrics. This year, FIFA has released a multi-song collection of tracks from international artists “showcasing diverse musical genres that span the world, setting the tone for a truly global celebration."
With 32 international teams in participation, the FIFA World Cup begins Sunday, November 20 in host nation Qatar with a tournament opener against Ecuador. A World Cup champion team will be crowned on Sunday, December 19.
The new song from Minaj comes days after the "Super Freaky Girl" artist was snubbed in the 2023 Grammy Awards nominations. Fellow rappers The Game and Doja Cat came to Minaj's defense, the latter opting not to celebrate her five nominations on social media.
Last month, Minaj and Latto feuded on Twitter in anticipation for the 2023 Grammy nominations, with Minaj protesting Latto's hit "Big Energy" from being in the rap categories. Latto ultimately prevailed, with the song being nominated for Best Melodic Rap performance and the artist herself receiving a nod for Best New Artist.
In a recent conversation with Jada Pinkett Smith for Interview, Minaj said that contemporary female rappers have misconceptions about her.
“I don’t think the new female rappers really understand who I am,” she said. “A lot of the girls that came before me, they really were those sexual beings, and I was so inspired by them. But I’m not like that, I’m more the goofy girl.
