Nile Rodgers Announces First Chic Album in 25 Years Will Arrive in 2017
Back in 2015, Nile Rodgers was back on the upswing of his career following 2013's chart-smasher "Get Lucky," a collaboration with Pharrell and Daft Punk. That same year, Rodgers announced that a new Chic album would be arriving that summer. The warmer days of 2015 came and went with no new album, though Rodgers continued his streak of collaborative smashes, most notably joining Janelle Monae on Duran Duran's "Pressure Off," and even released the new Chic single "I'll Be There" as a warm-up for what was to come.
Today, Rodgers took to his website to announce that a new Chic album was still on the way and that he had delayed its release on account of losing so many of his nearest and dearest collaborators throughout the year (a sentiment we're sure you'll all take to heart,) and that a new 2017 release would coincide with 40th anniversaries for the band (Chic) and Studio 54; the legendary NYC club that gave disco its platform (and gave all of the drugs and sex to disco.) In the same post he claims that they'll support the anniversaries with a grip of performances and parties, capping it off with the release of Chic's new album It's About Time, their first since 1992's Chic-Ism
No precise date has been announced just yet, but we'll surely have our eyes on the matter as it develops. Check back for updates in the weeks and months ahead. Read the full statement via Nile Rodgers' website.
