Both sites are cracking down on people trying to sell the complimentary tickets for profit.
Some people who managed to get free tickets for Nipsey Hussle's public memorial service before they sold out are now trying to make money off the complimentary tickets.
In a report from the Los Angeles Times, someone on eBay had sold four tickets for the "Nipsey Hussle Celebration of Life" service for $400. However, the Times goes on to note that the sale violated two of eBay's policies — "the company's free ticket policy, which allows eBay to prohibit the sale of free tickets on the platform, and its 'human tragedy policy,' which bans sellers from profiting from tragedy or suffering."
"This listing is prohibited under eBay’s policies and did not end up as a successful transaction," eBay said in a statement. "We've reached out to the seller to educate them regarding our policy."
In a separate report from TMZ, someone was also trying to sell tickets to the service on Craigslist, but the site has been "flagging the sales ads and yanking them from its website." Some tickets were being sold for as much as $500.
Tickets were made available on Tuesday morning and sold out shortly after. They were distributed to California residents only, with a max of 4 per group.
In related news, the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and West Slauson Avenue will be named Ermias "Nipsey Hussle" Asghedom Square, after the late Los Angeles rapper. Soon after Hussle died, a petition was started to get the intersection changed. It received over 500,000 signatures from fans across the world.
