Grammy Awards Nipsey Hussle Tribute Will Feature Meek Mill, Roddy Rich & More
Hussle is posthumously nominated for Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance.
The Recording Academy has officially announced Nipsey Hussle will receive a tribute at the 62nd Grammy Awards.
According to Billboard, the tribute is set to feature performances by Meek Mill, Roddy Rich, DJ Khaled, YG, Kirk Franklin and John Legend.
Grammy Awards executive producer, Ken Ehrlich released the following statement on Hussle:
"An activist, entrepreneur and rapper, Nipsey Hussle had a lasting impact on not just his community, but also the culture at large. There is no denying the influence he had and his legacy will be felt for generations to come. We are honored to bring together this amazing group of artists to celebrate Nipsey's life and pay tribute to his many contributions to music. It's sure to be a memorable performance."
Nipsey is posthumously nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “Racks in the Middle” featuring Hit-Boy and Roddy Rich. Additionally, “Higher” with DJ Khaled and John Legend was nominated for the Best Rap/Sung Performance category.
In an interview, Lauren London, Hussle’s fiancée speaks on his legacy:
"It’s bittersweet because he’s not here to physically receive it or to see it, but I know because of the type of man he was and how hard he worked, that it is a positive addition to his legacy."
Hosted by Alicia Keys, the Grammy Awards will feature performances by Tyler, the Creator, H.E.R. Billie Eilish, Rosalía, and Camila Cabello. Additional artists who were previously announced include Charlie Wilson, Demi Lovato and more.
The 62nd Grammy Awards will broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 26 at 8:00 p.m. EST on CBS.
