NPR Digs Deep Into Biggie's Life w/ 'If You Don't Know, Now You Know : The Stories Of Notorious B.I.G.'
Last week, the good folks over at NPR organized one of the most insightful explorations of BK's mic-slaying deity AKA The Notorious B.I.G. that ever was. They rounded up some of Big's old partners in crime (figuratively speaking of course) including his childhood friend and very first DJ Hubert Sam, mentor and jazz musician Donald Harrison Jr., old friend and writer Dream Hampton and the man who gave him his first legitimate piece of press in The Source's "Unsigned Hype" column, none other than Matty C. What followed was less a nostalgic romp of glory days tales and more a heartfelt account of how the man they called Chris touched each and everyone of them respectively.
The evening was hosted and curated by Microphone Check architects Frannie Kelly and another New York heavyweight in Ali Shaheed Muhammad, housed by BAM's Brick Media House, just a few blocks west on Fulton from where it all went down. There's far too much covered to even try and break it down for you here. Go ahead an watch the entirety of the panel discussion below and wish Ready To Die a happy two-oh in the meantime.
